8/9/2008/ 18.40: Finally got to updating the Locost build log, it’s been a great Summer but it meant a lot of time away from the garage. I just returned from Cape Cod this afternoon and got to ordering some much needed parts right away. Now that I’ve gotten a few things done, I’m going to watch “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde”, as it’s just arrived from Netflix. I read the book earlier in the year so I’m interested to see how the movie came out.

6/10/2008/ 20.13: Just got back from soccer, and wow was it hot. Today floated around 95f, so running around on the open pitch was warm to say the least. We played with some of the older guys (30+ is old to us youngsters) that usually show up, and unfortunately one of them broke his ankle while I was defending him. I felt pretty guilty, but he was relatively calm considering the circumstances. I wish him a speedy recovery. Onto the Locost: More parts! I received my spindles in the mail yesterday, boy was I excited. Time to really get cracking on the suspension. I also have the rear axle on the way, I think… And I’m just ordering some rod ends and such from Jack at Kinetic. I’ve heard he’s great to work with and in a quick response email of his I can see what the hype is about.

6/3/2008/ 23.39:First time back out on the pitch since last Summer, and I feel great! Soccer is my only exercise in the Summer, as hockey is in the Winter, so this should keep me at an acceptable level of fitness. I went to the junkyard this morning and talked with the guys there about a Camaro that was laying in the lot. It looks like it’s got some great parts to offer, and I hope I can get what I need for a reasonable price. Tomorrow I’ll be getting the rear axle, and possibly the 5 speed transmission. A few days ago my muffler fell off, so I welded it back on last night, and gave the old gal an oil change while I was at it. I’ve been neglecting my daily driver like a doctors appointment, but now she should be a bit happier.

5/12/2008/ 21.19: Today has been a long one. Exhausted from a weekend of work and staying out late, I passed out at 9:00 last night. I didn’t sleep well, which is something that happens about once a year with me, and upon awakening at 5:00am I began writing my final, to be e-mailed in at 5:00pm. So I wrote, and wrote, until about 4:45, and then sent the bugger in. 6 pages in 12 hours sounds like a waste, but it was single spaced if that’s any consolation. After that I thought I could use some fresh air and thus went for a jog, something I decided my Summer ought not be without because all that good beer is getting to my gut. Out of breath in half of what it used to take, I grumpily sat and researched Chevy transmissions (grumpy because I don’t like being out of shape, but I should be able to get back soon now that school’s out). It seems that I will just need to get out and buy a donor, because as much research as I do, I can’t build the transmission tunnel without having it in. Also, Fida and I spent some quality time in the garage while he was here. I was quite happy that he had nothing negative to say, as I was half expecting him to look at my frame and gasp at the fact I was actually going to drive in it. He seemed impressed overall and that set my mind at ease. We spent most of the week talking about Locost business, to the detriment of my non-locost-building friends as they had to sit and listen to us boffins go on about chassis rigidity and power-to-weight ratios. I also got a very generous offer from Fida’s mum, offering up the spare side of their garage to my build if my house should be sold. Thanks!

5/5/2008/ 19.39: Just finished updating the build log, progress is slow but steady. Also I added this personal blog and a place to review beer, movies, music, books, and anything else I feel qualified to critique. I am excited that it’s almost Summer! That means playing soccer, taking trips, being outdoors and of course working on the Locost. Also, a rumor of Hunter coming home in July means I’ll have to get a belated birthday party together.
